Divot Charities is a Northern Virginia based organization that raises money for charitable organizations across the country. The organization was founded in 2007 by a group of friends who saw the incredible potential in organizing social, athletic, or other events to raise money for people in need.
The primary beneficiary of Divot Charities has been The Fisher House program. The Fisher House program is a public-private partnership that supports America's military and their families. The program donates "comfort homes," which are homes built on the grounds of major military and Veteran Administration (VA) medical centers to house family members of military personnel who have been hospitalized for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. There is at least one Fisher House at every major medical center to assist families in need and to ensure they are provided the comforts of home during stressful times. The program serves more than 10,000 families annually, and no family pays to stay at any Fisher House.
Our May 2019 golf tournament and auction raised more than $60,000 for our supported charities, bringing our 16-year total to over $625,000! None of this would have been possible without the help of our sponsors, donors, and contributors. Because of their generosity, we were able to present the manager of the five(!) Fisher Houses at NSA Bethesda, Home of Walter Reed National Military Medical, with a check for $45,000. Additionally, we made donations to the Falls Church Education Foundation and Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program, which also supports our wounded warriors.
A special note about Divot Charities committee member Scott Sisk. Many familiar with Divot Charities know that Scott Sisk was an enthusiastic founding presence in our organization. He was involved in the planning, execution, and support of our fundraising events since inception. Scott was shockingly stricken with Sepsis this past fall, and succumbed quickly to the deadly condition. The tragedy of his loss––to all who knew and loved and had the pleasure to work with Scott––cannot be overstated. In honor of Scott’s tireless dedication to our mission and contributions to its success, we are comforted and proud to announce that our annual fundraising event for 2020 is the Divot Charities Scott Sisk Memorial Golf Tournament: a testament to Scott’s legacy of friendship and commitment.
